Lighting Set-Ups & Effects
A low Key Light set up consists of a dark background, often black, and one light that is set up to the side of the subject. This effect is very dramatic, reminiscent of the Baroque era in art.
The Basic High Key Light setup on the right shows 4 lights. However, a very simple set up can be achieved with only one light and a reflector, very similar to the set up for the Low Key above, but with a white background, which itself, acts as a reflecting surface to soften the light.

Illustration above shows the same low Key Light set up, but with an added reflector that acts to reflect light on the other side of the subject. (A reflector can simply be a white board.)
