Photography Resource site-SJU
WelcomeThis site is created for students from St. John's University who are taking a photography class in the Department of Art and Design.
This site serves as a course tool where resources, videos, and lessons will be posted. The purpose is to gather information and resources you will need to successfully participate in photography classes and learn how to use your camera effectively. This site also features links to tutorials on Adobe Photoshop and other pertinent programs that are necessary for successful editing and printing of your work. |
Getting Started
The "Lessons and Resources" Tab above will act as a "textbook". Students are expected to read and study this section thoroughly in order to learn and enhance their understanding of the material. Photography helps people to see. - Berenice Abbott
CANVAS Discussion Boards:
Students who are enrolled in Distant Learning or Hybrid type courses are expected to respond to Discussion Forums, which will be on CANVAS, created by the professor teaching the class. Comments are to be respectful at all times and exemplify critical and creative thought when called for. The professor will enter student discussions when and where appropriate in order to clarify questions or re-direct discussions when necessary. Discussion Boards and Assignments will be accessed through the SJU CANVAS Course Module for each corresponding class. This site only serves as a resource or "textbook" for the classes. For successful completion of the assignments you will need a camera, preferably a DSLR. However, you may also use camera phone apps such as: Camera + or Pro Camera. These apps can be cheaply purchased on the web through App stores. (One is $2.99 and the other is $4.99.) If you don't have access to a DSLR, these apps will provide you with many of the settings that a DSLR has so as to better understand the course material and the creative and technical aspects of photography. Direct links to these Apps are found in the Links & Resources Tab.
In addition to the above, access to Adobe Photoshop will be needed to learn the basics of image editing. You will be able to have access to this platform in all the the Mac labs on campus. |
